In this presentation, Dr. Maples will discuss best practices of asynchronous and synchronous online learning, how to develop interaction and presence online, modalities and pedagogical options for online learning, and assessment. Examples will be shared from teachers and discussion will follow with an opportunity for questions.

Bio

Dr. Joellen Maples, St. John Fisher College, Interim Dean, Ralph C. Wilson, Jr. School of Education

Dr. Maples began her career at Fisher in 2008 and is an associate professor in the Department of Inclusive Education and the current interim dean of the School of Education. She has written many journal articles around online teaching in K-12 education on such topics as building classroom community, discussion, questioning, and the evolution of language in online chatrooms, and the shifting role of the teacher in online environments. She has experience in online and hybrid teaching as she has designed many online and hybrid courses at St. John Fisher College.
